The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a 46-year-old man, identified as Abi Baragon, for allegedly stabbing his lover multiple times after she rejected his marriage proposal.

According to reports, a video that went viral in June 2025 showed the victim crying for help while lying in a pool of blood after the brutal attack.

In a statement released on Thursday, 17 October, the command’s spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, said officers from the Human Rights Department at the State Headquarters, Moscow Road, Port Harcourt, acted swiftly after receiving the viral footage. Using intelligence-led policing and technical support, they arrested the suspect on 13 October 2025.

“It was alleged that the suspect’s motive for the assault stemmed from the victim’s rejection of his marriage overtures, prompted by her discovery that he was already married with four children—an allegation he denied,” the statement read.

During interrogation, Baragon reportedly confessed to using bottles to stab the victim.

The suspect is currently in police custody, while the victim is receiving medical treatment in hospital. The command said an in-depth investigation has been launched to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

SP Iringe-Koko added that the Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, commended the operatives for their swift action and expressed appreciation to members of the public for providing credible information that led to the suspect’s arrest.
