Minister Geoffrey Nnaji Resigns Amid Certificate Forgery Allegations

By Diafa Doubra,
Nigeria’s Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Geoffrey Nnaji, has resigned from his position following mounting allegations of certificate forgery. The embattled minister tendered his resignation letter to President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday, saying his decision was in the best interest of the country and the administration.
Nnaji, who was accused of falsifying his academic credentials, maintained that his resignation was not an admission of guilt but a move to allow a fair and transparent investigation into the matter. “I am stepping aside to protect the integrity of the office I hold and to ensure due process is not compromised,” he stated.
The controversy surrounding Nnaji’s credentials had generated public outcry, with civil society groups and opposition figures calling for his removal. The Presidency is yet to name a replacement, but government insiders say an acting minister may be appointed pending further investigation into the allegations.
His resignation marks one of the most high-profile political shakeups in the Tinubu administration this year, reigniting debates about transparency and accountability in public office.
