Miss Mexico, Fátima Bosch, has been officially crowned Miss Universe 2025, bringing to a close one of the most controversy-ridden pageant seasons in recent memory.

The 25-year-old secured the title just a fortnight after she walked out of a Miss Universe event in early November, following a heated confrontation with a Thai official who publicly reprimanded her in front of dozens of contestants and threatened to disqualify anyone who supported her.

During the live streamed sashing ceremony for nearly all 130 contestants on 4 November, Thai national director Nawat Itsaragrisil admonished Bosch for allegedly failing to follow his instructions regarding local promotional activities. When she attempted to defend herself, he called security.

Bosch left the room, joined by several contestants in a show of solidarity, including the reigning Miss Universe 2024, Victoria Kjær Theilvig of Denmark.

The controversy was soon followed by the resignation of two judges, one of whom accused the organisers of manipulating the competition.

On Thursday night, the international finals took place at Impact Challenger Hall in Bangkok, Thailand, where Bosch, representing Mexico, was crowned Miss Universe 2025.

Thailand’s Praveenar Singh, 29, emerged as first runner-up, while 25-year-old Stephany Adriana Abasali Nasser of Venezuela finished in third place.

Ahtisa Manalo, 28, of the Philippines, and 27-year-old Olivia Yacé of Ivory Coast completed the top five.
