No fewer than 95 terrorists were neutralised in a coordinated air operation by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) around Ragada and Warari villages in Rijau Local Government Area of Niger State.
It was gathered that the terrorists were intercepted by fighter jets deployed under Operation Fasin Yamma on Tuesday at about 3:00 p.m., while they were moving in large numbers from Zamfara State, through Kebbi, en route to Niger.
Credible sources disclosed that the terrorists, who were reportedly riding on 108 motorcycles and armed with sophisticated weapons, were tracked to the Rijau axis, where they were struck between Ragada and Warari villages.
The precise coordinates of the strike were confirmed within the general area of Rijau LGA.
Further reports indicated that only 13 of the terrorists managed to escape, while the rest were eliminated in the operation.
The airstrike was said to have been based on actionable intelligence gathered from within the region, which alerted security forces to the movement of the armed group.
Residents of Makuku, Warari, and Ragada villages expressed relief and appreciation following the successful operation.
Many lauded the federal government and security agencies for their continued efforts in tackling the menace of terrorism and restoring peace to the affected communities in Niger and the broader northwest region.
