NAFDAC alert Nigerians as Cough Syrup kills six children in Cameroon

Nigerians have been alerted by The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC on Wednesday, April 26 about a cough Syrup, NATURCOLD
Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, NAFDAC Director General stated that the cough Syrup, NATURCOLD is a deadly syrup as it has killed six children in Cameroon.
It was reported that the cough Syrup was not input into NAFDAC’s database.
Prof. Mojisola advised importers, distributors, retailers and consumers to be careful within the supply chain .
The director general stated that fake drugs were mostly smuggled into the country from neighbouring countries and distributed through inappropriate channels.
She called on all importers, distributors, retailers and consumers to neglect the substandard syrup.
“All medical products must be obtained from authorised/licensed suppliers. The products’ authenticity and physical condition should be carefully checked. She stated.
“NAFDAC implores members of the public to desist from buying medicinal products from unauthorised sources such as roadside vendors and street hawkers,’’ she stated.
“If you know anyone who have used these product, or suffered any adverse reaction after use, such person is advised to seek immediate medical advice from a qualified healthcare professional,’’ she added.
Adeyeye however advised healthcare professionals and consumers to report any suspicion of sale and use of substan.
She urged any person in possession of the deadly syrup, NATURCOLD to stop its sale or use and submit stock to the nearest NAFDAC office.
