By Micheal Chukwuebuka
The National Assembly has passed the 2026 Appropriation Bill totaling Sixty Eight point Three Trillion Naira.
The increase in the 2026 budget size with an additional 9 trillion naira followed President Tinubu’s request to the Senate and House of Representatives which was expeditiously approved by both chambers.
The budget increase is to enable alignment with financing plans and to preserve macro economic stability.
The Senate and House of Representatives also approved two seperate loan requests from the President.
The first is for a five billion US dollars loan from the First Abu Dhabi Bank of the United Arab Emirates to establish an external financing programme.
The other request was for the sourcing of 1.9 billion US Dollars from Citi Bank of London to enable the upgrade of the Apapa and Tin Can Island Ports in Lagos.
