National Grid Collapse Plunges Businesses Into Fresh Blackout

By Diafa Doubra,
Nigerians are once again grappling with widespread power outages following the collapse of the national electricity grid, leaving homes and businesses in darkness.
Reports from the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) confirmed that the grid went down late Wednesday, marking yet another setback in the country’s troubled power sector.
The blackout has disrupted operations in several states, with businesses warning of rising costs due to heavy reliance on diesel and petrol generators. Small business owners, especially in Lagos and Abuja, say the latest collapse could further strain their already tight operating budgets.
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has reacted by calling for an immediate audit of the power sector, arguing that billions of naira invested over the years have failed to deliver steady electricity.
Analysts fear that if the situation persists, Nigeria’s efforts to boost industrial growth and attract investment could be undermined. Meanwhile, TCN says engineers are working round the clock to restore supply, but no definite timeline has been given.
