Netanyahu Pushes for Full Gaza Occupation Amid Mounting Criticism

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is pushing for full military control of the remaining parts of Gaza, sparking fresh controversy within Israel’s political and security circles. The move comes after ceasefire talks with Hamas collapsed earlier this week, reigniting debates over the future of the months-long war.

Netanyahu convened his security cabinet to deliberate on plans for expanding operations into southern Gaza, where hundreds of thousands of displaced Palestinians are currently sheltering. According to officials, the goal is to eliminate Hamas presence and rescue remaining hostages. However, the proposal has drawn fierce opposition from senior military leaders and more than 600 former Israeli security officials, who warn that a full occupation could lead to heavier Israeli casualties, worsen humanitarian conditions, and further isolate Israel internationally.

So far, Israeli forces control about 75% of Gaza. Netanyahu insists the expansion is necessary to achieve total victory, but critics argue the move is politically motivated as the Prime Minister faces growing domestic and international pressure.

While no final decision has been announced, the debate highlights deep divisions within Israel’s leadership and raises fears of a significant escalation in the conflict.
