A prominent Niger Delta activist, Comrade Ozobo Austin, has expressed disappointment and frustration over the slow pace of work on the Ayakoromo bridge project, which was awarded over 12 years ago. Speaking out, Austin lamented that despite the government’s rhetoric, the project remains starved of funds, with little progress made.

Austin contrasted the Ayakoromo bridge project with three bridges in Warri and Effurun, which were initiated less than two years ago and are nearing 90% completion. “The people of Ayakoromo are disappointed at the pace of work on the bridge,” Austin said, warning that the Ijaw riverine communities’ support for the governor’s re-election bid hangs in the balance.

The activist accused the governor of tribalism, saying, “I thought you were a detribalized governor, but now I see you’re a tribalistic governor.” Austin expressed sadness and pity over the situation, emphasizing that the governor’s poor commitment to the project is unacceptable.

Austin has issued a stern warning, stating that it is the demand of the people that the governor votes funds for the project and ensures its completion before the end of the year. “The bridge will determine the Ijaw riverine communities’ support for your re-election,” Austin reiterated, urging the governor to act swiftly to address the issue.
