In a major breakthrough against terrorism, Nigerian security forces have arrested two of the country’s most wanted militant leaders during a coordinated operation.

The suspects, identified as Mahmud Muhammad Usman, a top commander of the Ansaru terror group, and Mahmud al-Nigeri, leader of the Mahmuda militant faction, were captured after months of surveillance and intelligence gathering. Authorities said both men have been linked to several deadly attacks in the North and had been on the run for years.

According to officials, the operation also led to the recovery of critical digital evidence that could help dismantle remaining militant networks across the country. Security analysts have described the arrests as one of the biggest blows to extremist groups in recent times, noting that it could significantly weaken their operational capacity.

The Nigerian government has pledged to intensify efforts to track down other wanted insurgent leaders and restore stability to communities affected by years of violence.
