Nigeria Can Now Deliver 5,000 Passports in Five Hours – FG

By Diafa Doubra,
The Federal Government has announced a major breakthrough in passport processing, revealing that Nigeria can now produce and deliver between 4,000 and 5,000 passports within five hours.
The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, disclosed this during the commissioning of a new Centralised Passport Personalisation Centre in Abuja. He explained that the facility was designed to reduce delays and eliminate the long waiting periods that Nigerians often face when applying for passports.
According to the minister, the innovation is part of ongoing reforms to modernize the immigration system and improve service delivery. He added that the government’s goal is to make passport issuance seamless, transparent, and efficient, in line with international best practices.
The development has been widely welcomed by Nigerians at home and abroad, many of whom have expressed frustration in the past over long queues, delays, and corruption in the passport application process.
Tunji-Ojo assured that similar centres would be established across the country to ensure that every Nigerian has quick and easy access to travel documents.
