Nigeria, Germany Deepen Strategic Partnership

Nigeria and Germany have further deepened their strategic partnership in a meeting of the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Dunoma Umar Ahmed with German Ambassador Annett Günther. They discussed multilateral cooperation, economic collaboration, and cultural heritage preservation.

Both sides discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation, focusing on reciprocal support for UN Security Council candidacies and UN reform.

Ambassador Gunther highlighted the successful 2025 Bi-National Commission meeting as a milestone, and praised Nigeria’s support for Germany’s 2024 UN Security Council bid.

Germany advocated increased African representation in the UN Security Council.

Ambassador Dunoma Umar reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to sustained diplomatic engagement, reciprocal support in multilateral forums, and cooperation in infrastructural development, particularly energy transmission.

The meeting highlighted the maturity and strategic depth of Nigeria-Germany relations, anchored on mutual respect and shared global responsibilities.
