‘Nigeria Would Have Collapsed Without Prayer’ — PFN President, Bishop Wale Oke
By Micheal Chukwuebuka
The National President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Bishop Wale Oke, has said that Nigeria would have collapsed without the constant prayers of Christians.
In an interview marking the PFN’s 40th anniversary, Oke said the prayers of believers have been the nation’s spiritual lifeline amid insecurity, economic hardship, and moral decay.
“Nigeria would have collapsed but for the prayers of the people,” Oke said. “One renowned man of God once said, ‘The only thing we need to do for the nation to collapse is to stop praying.’ The moment we stop praying, evil will take over.”
The cleric stressed that PFN members intercede daily for the nation’s peace and stability. “The prayers of our members have prevented the enemy from taking over our nation,” he said, adding that prayer remains the most potent force holding the country together.
According to him, the Pentecostal movement has been a major influence in promoting unity, evangelism, education, and moral transformation across Nigeria.
He noted that Pentecostals have contributed immensely through private universities, secondary schools, hospitals, and community development projects.
Bishop Oke also cautioned against focusing only on negative narratives about Nigeria, urging citizens to acknowledge the country’s positive strides. “If our nation were as bad as we think it is, none of us would still be here,” he said.
He assured that the PFN will continue to pray and teach values rooted in righteousness and nation-building, saying, “Until we get to the point where we can say it is Uhuru, we will not stop praying for this nation.”
