The body of Dr. Cletus Iwuagwu, a 71-year-old Nigerian doctor and professor, has been discovered in Orchard Lake, Ohio, weeks after he went missing. Dr. Iwuagwu was last seen on November 24, 2025, after being discharged from a local hospital and returning home.

He was reported missing the following day when family members were unable to reach him. Surveillance footage showed him near his home in Holland at about 2:15 a.m. on November 25, 2025.

A month-long search effort involving law enforcement, drones, K-9 teams, and volunteers ended on December 25, 2025, when authorities discovered his body in the lake near Stone Oak Country Club. The Springfield Fire Department recovered the body, which was later identified as Dr. Iwuagwu.

The Lucas County Coroner’s Office confirmed that an autopsy revealed Dr. Iwuagwu died from drowning, with no signs of trauma or foul play. Investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding his death.

Dr. Iwuagwu was a respected professor at the University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences and a geriatric medicine physician with UToledo Health. His death has been met with sadness from the community and colleagues.
