A Nigerian man has admitted to murdering a 23-year-old British woman who was a former colleague with whom he had a brief relationship.

Stephanie Irons’ body was found by emergency services after they were called to an address in Westdale Lane West, Mapperley, on 21 October 2025.

Adedapo Adegbola, 40, of Woodborough Road, Mapperley, appeared at Nottingham Crown Court and admitted a single charge of murder. He will be sentenced on 5 February.

Police described Irons as “a caring and compassionate young woman” who was taken from her friends and family “in horrific circumstances”.

Adegbola, who relocated to the UK in 2022, is set to face a mandatory life sentence. Judge Nirmal Shant KC told him it was just a question of “setting the minimum term”.

Members of Irons’ family were in court, and the prosecution confirmed victim impact statements were being prepared.
