A police constable in Borno State, Alhaji Muhammad, has returned ₦2.6 million that was mistakenly transferred into his bank account, an action that has drawn praise from colleagues and members of the public.
Muhammad said his decision was driven by a desire to challenge negative perceptions often associated with the Nigeria Police Force.
He explained that returning the money was the right thing to do and a way to demonstrate that honesty still exists within the institution.
According to him, the funds were sent in error by a Moniepoint customer. Upon discovering the unexpected credit alert, he immediately took steps to ensure the money was traced and returned to the rightful owner without delay.
The spokesperson of the Borno State Police Command, ASP Nahum Daso, confirmed the development. He said the Commissioner of Police in the state, Naziru Abdulmajeed, later invited the constable for a meeting to commend and discuss the incident.
Muhammad, who works in the insurance office of the Borno State Police Command, has since been widely praised for his integrity.
Many have described his action as a positive example of professionalism and a reminder that individual conduct can help rebuild public trust in law enforcement.
