Nigeria’s Oil Output Hits 1.8 Million Barrels Per Day

Nigeria’s crude oil production has climbed to its highest level in over a year, reaching 1.8 million barrels per day (bpd) in July 2025, according to the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC). The boost comes on the back of improved security in the Niger Delta, where frequent pipeline vandalism and crude theft had previously crippled output. Officials credit increased patrols, community engagement, and better collaboration with oil companies for the surge.

Industry analysts say the production rebound is a positive sign for Nigeria’s economy, which heavily depends on oil exports for revenue and foreign exchange. However, they caution that sustaining the momentum will require long term investment in infrastructure, continued security presence, and the resolution of ongoing disputes with host communities. The government has pledged to keep output steady and work towards meeting the country’s OPEC quota, raising hopes for stronger fiscal stability in the months ahead.
