NLC Queries Five Affiliate Union Leaders Over Edo Secretariat Lockdown

By Diafa Doubra,
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has issued formal queries to five presidents of its affiliate unions over the continuous closure of the NLC state secretariat in Benin City, Edo State.
According to reports, the secretariat has remained under lock and key for weeks, disrupting the activities of workers and stalling union operations. The NLC leadership described the action as a breach of internal rules and an embarrassment to the labour movement.
In the queries, the affiliate leaders were asked to explain their roles in the ongoing crisis and justify why disciplinary measures should not be taken against them. The development comes amid rising tensions within the state council of the NLC, with rival factions battling for control.
Labour watchers say the situation, if not quickly resolved, could undermine the union’s ability to effectively represent workers’ interests in Edo. The national body has, however, assured that it is working to restore normalcy and protect the integrity of the labour movement.
