Nnamdi Kanu Lists Malami, Wike, Buratai, Others as Witnesses in His Terrorism Trial

By Diafa Doubra,
Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has named several high-profile Nigerians including former Attorney-General of the Federation Abubakar Malami (SAN), Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike, and former Chief of Army Staff Tukur Buratai as witnesses in his ongoing terrorism trial.
According to Reports, the names were contained in a fresh motion filed before the Federal High Court in Abuja on October 20 and 21, 2025. Kanu’s legal team submitted the application seeking the court’s permission to compel these individuals to appear and testify in his defence.
The IPOB leader argued that their testimonies were essential to establishing facts surrounding the federal government’s actions during his arrest, detention, and the wider proscription of the separatist group. His lawyers also requested a 90-day extension to allow adequate time to conclude the defence process, citing the number of witnesses they intend to call.
Kanu has been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) since 2021, facing multiple charges bordering on terrorism, secession, and incitement. The development has sparked renewed debate over the fairness and transparency of the prolonged legal proceedings.
