The National Coordinator, All Workers Convergence (AWC), Comrade Andrew, in solidarity with the Former (TUC) Chairman Oyo State to urged all well meaning Nigerians to remain resolute on the planned 10-day nationwide hunger and hardship protest to draw the federal and state governments’ attention to the worsening socio-economic woes on the citizens.

In a statement the national coordinator of AWC said,

“We have been calling for protest and we shall continue to call for protest until the system works for the public good. We are in full support of calls by Nigerians for massive protest in order to end hunger, hardship and bad governance in Nigeria.

Meanwhile, he stressed that in a situation like ours in Nigeria, protest becomes a collective duty. It is however, antisocial not to participate in protest.

“Nigerians had been drifted and visited with pains, hunger, hardship and citizen have no other option, but resorted to suicide. However, the Nigerian government is not helping matters, it has been anti people policies all the way and bad governance everywhere.

“Our people have lost hope in the system. All our able-bodied citizens are either leaving or planning to leave the country. Our people are being strangled daily by bad governance. Our government keeps telling us the same old story. While the mass majority of our people pass through hardship, our rulers and a very few are immersed in unimaginable wealth and wastage of national resources. Virtually all state governors in Nigeria are trillionaires.

“There is so much wealth in the hands of a few while the mass majority remains poor. Unemployment is massive, salaries and pensions are poor, businesses are folding up and investors are running away from Nigeria. Everybody is just tired of the situation.

“We will not sit down and continue to see things get worse by the day. Our leaders have been making mockery of governance and certainly we cannot continue like this. Governance under Tinubu has brought untold hardship to our people. Everything is now upside down. It appears governance under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has collapsed.

“Our people are serving punishment under Tinubu. We have suffered enough. We will not wait until hunger kills us all. Tinubu has failed. Our people have the right to protest against bad governance and hunger in the land.

“We the Nigerian workers support the call for national protest against hunger and bad governance. Protests everywhere are fundamental human rights. Protests everywhere are lawful. Protest is not a crime. Protest is the duty of all citizens. We shall protest, no going back. We salute the courage of our people as we all continue to mobilise for actions towards the D day.

“We call for massive participation from all sectors of society. The NLC/TUC is called upon to solidify with this protest. Workers , traders and parents’ support is needed. Our youths, National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) and all students bodies are called upon to join in this struggle to liberate our country from backwardness.

“Religious leaders and the Royal fathers must not abandone the people . All our celebrities, the civil society’s organisation (CSO), the Take It Back (TIB) movement and the #EndSars movement is called upon to make this protest realise its objectives.

“We call on all our security agencies, who are also workers to ensure the safety of protesters, who offcourse are also promoting the wellbeing of security agencies through this protest. This protest is for all citizens. Those in power should ensure that live ammunitions are not brought anywhere near the protest venue inline with international laws to guarantee the rights of protesters.

“This protest is very popular and widely accepted by our people, It is legitimate and it is a clarion call to duty. This protest is for the public good. This protest is not a regional one but a national one and it will take off simultaneously across the federation.

“This protest is a revolt against hunger and a rebellion against hardship. Our people are only trying to resist deprivation. This is a revolution towards the genuine transformation of Nigeria. Our people have suffered enough.

“Our people have made up their minds to arrest the situation. We are going ahead with the planned protest. Anybody against this call for protest is an enemy of the people. It is time to emancipate Nigeria from corruption, bad governance and exploitation. We call for synergy among all the organisers of this protest. We shall overcome. No retreat no surrender.

“The united people will never be defeated”
