Oborevwori lacks governance skills, hates Ijaws for appointing two Itsekiri commissioners in Warri North -Activist Ozobo
• Demands immediate appointment of Ijaw commissioner in Warri North
By Monday Peters, Abuja
A prominent activist, Comrade Ozobo Austin, has accused Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of lacking governance skills and harboring bias against the Ijaw people. The accusation stems from the governor’s appointment of two Itsekiri commissioners from Warri North Local Government Area, excluding the Ijaws who are the majority in the local government area.
Ozobo claimed the governor’s decision is a clear example of his inability to manage the state’s diverse ethnic groups and prioritize fairness. According to him, Egbema Ijaw has long felt marginalized in Delta State, adding that this singular appointment of two Itsekiri commissioners in a local government of two ethnic groups has made Oborevwori the most Ijaw unfriendly governor in the history of Delta State.
He expressed disappointment and frustration, stating that the governor’s action violates the Federal Character Principle and the Constitution. He demanded an Ijaw commissioner to address the imbalance among Ijaws in Warri North, threatening to shut down the Delta State government house if their demands weren’t met.
The rights advocate urged Oborevwori to emulate proper governance skills from his predecessors in the state and learned from others governors in Rivers, Bayelsa, and Ondo States.
He insisted that Ijaws remains the majority in Warri North, adding that Oborevwori should correct the wrong now or it will affect him in his reelection bid in the state.
However, Governor Oborevwori’s administration has been praised for its focus on infrastructure development but this incident has raised concerns about his leadership and ability to balance the interests of different ethnic groups in the state.
The situation remains tense, with calls for the governor to reconsider his decision and ensure fair representation for all ethnic groups in Delta State.
