The Delta State Government has presented an expansive ₦1.664 trillion budget proposal for 2026 to the State House of Assembly, outlining a development-driven financial plan aimed at accelerating the administration’s MORE Agenda. Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, who made the presentation in Asaba, described the proposal as a forward-looking roadmap designed to address infrastructure gaps, improve social services, and strengthen the state’s economic base.

In the proposed budget, ₦1.165 trillion representing about 70% is dedicated to capital projects, signalling a major push for physical development across the state. The Ministry of Works alone is set to receive ₦450 billion for the construction and rehabilitation of highways, rural roads, and riverine routes, which the governor says will improve transportation and support business growth. The remaining ₦499 billion (30%) has been earmarked for recurrent expenditure, covering salaries, overheads, and other essential administrative needs.

Education and health also rank high on the priority list, with ₦105.086 billion allocated to the education sector and ₦50.067 billion set aside to upgrade primary healthcare centres, general hospitals, and tertiary health institutions. Additionally, ₦100 billion has been reserved for intervention projects across the 25 local government areas, while agriculture is allocated ₦10 billion to boost food production. The governor further revealed that the budget would be funded through statutory allocations and derivation funds amounting to ₦720 billion, internally generated revenue projected at ₦250 billion, VAT receipts, capital inflows, and other savings.
