Fresh allegations have surfaced linking Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, and his Chief Protocol Officer, Abayomi “Yomi” Olusanya, to a coordinated attack on pro-democracy activists during this year’s June 12 commemoration rally in Akure.
According to reports the assault targeted members of the “Take It Back Movement” led by activist and publisher, Omoyele Sowore. Eyewitnesses claimed that the attackers, allegedly hired thugs, descended on peaceful demonstrators with dangerous weapons, leaving several people injured and property destroyed.
Sources close to the incident alleged that the attack was planned within the Governor’s office to intimidate activists critical of the administration. The report also indicated that security operatives on the scene failed to intervene as the violence unfolded.
Neither Governor Aiyedatiwa nor his Chief Protocol Officer has publicly responded to the allegations at the time of this report. Meanwhile, civil rights groups have called for an independent investigation into the matter, describing the incident as “a dangerous assault on democracy and freedom of expression.”
