Only Jonathan’s Enemies Want Him to Contest in 2027 — Oshiomhole

Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole, has said that anyone encouraging former President Goodluck Jonathan to run for the 2027 presidential election is not his friend but an enemy.

Oshiomhole made the remark while speaking to journalists on Sunday, stressing that the former president had already served the nation to the best of his ability and should not be dragged back into the murky waters of partisan politics.

According to the senator representing Edo North, those pushing Jonathan to contest again are merely trying to exploit his reputation for their personal political gains. “Jonathan has earned respect at home and abroad for peacefully handing over power in 2015. It would be unwise for him to soil that legacy by returning to politics,” Oshiomhole said.

He further advised the former president to continue his global peace-building efforts and mentorship of younger leaders instead of being drawn into another election battle.

Political analysts say Oshiomhole’s comment reflects growing speculation within political circles about possible realignments ahead of the 2027 elections, as parties begin early maneuvering for influence and power.

The former labour leader concluded by emphasizing that Nigeria needs new leadership ideas and the active participation of younger, visionary politicians to drive national renewal.
