OPINION: THE POLITICS OF ZOMBIE IN DELTA , BY SIR MARKSON ODE

On the 29th day of May, 2025 will make it 2years we celebrated the inauguration of the Delta State Government led by Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). The gravamen of the campaign was hinged on the criticism of the All Progress Congress led Federal Government that was believed to have orchestrated untold hardship, wanton poverty and gross reduction of our economic powers. It was loudly echoed by political pundits of the PDP then, that the ineptitude clearly manifested by the policies of the All Progress Congress (APC) through its standard bearers at the National level would be replicated at the state level if the All Progress Congress (APC) candidate then was allowed access to the Delta State’s Government House. The people of Delta State spoke in loud voice in belief of the Ukodo mantra.

WOW!!! what a bandwagon effect the fear of hunger, pain, poverty and gross economic hardship had on the people who believed that the multifaceted economic woes of Nigeria was a party issue. The real questions now are; WHAT HAS CHANGED WITH THE ALL PROGRESSIVE CONGRESS?
IS NIGERIA BETTER ECONOMICALLY NOW THAN IT WAS 2YEARS AGO? WHAT ECONOMIC IMPACT DOES THE MOVEMENT OF THE ENTIRE DELTA STATE GOVERNMENT HAVE ON THE PEOPLE?

We shall attempt to provide analytical answers to the above critical questions.
Firstly, the APC has only succeeded in using the weaknesses, miseries, lack of Will and clout of the opposition to weaponise them thereby making them to crawl and beg to join the APC.

Secondly, on weather the Nigerian economy is better than it was 2years ago. This is ludicrous if anyone will stand to try convince anyone on the state of Nigeria today. The costs of staple food and everything have skyrocketed. For example, the things #100,000 (One Hundred Thousand Naira) could do for you just two years ago cannot be done with #500,000 (Five Hundred Thousand Naira) anymore. Furthermore, the Socio-economic life of an average Nigeria has been destroyed by poor marksmanship and dearth of leadership in the midst of abundance of both human and natural resources.

Thirdly, on the economic impact or benefits of the exodus of the Delta State government and its apparatus to the All Progress Congress. It’s a “zombie” movement without specific purpose except for the benefits of the clueless merchants in politics. The All Progress Congress that was widely speculated to be the main cause of Nigerian economic woes has suddenly become a coveted bride. WHAT A SHAME??? These people only seek their self aggrandizement and benefits irrespective of what becomes of the people they govern.

Going forward, should Deltans trust these bunch of inconsistent folks with their mandate again? There’s need to reevaluate the rationale for giving political support to people. DELTA STATE ELECTORATE ARE NOT ZOMBIES.
