The Commander of Osun State Amotekun Corps, Dr Adekunle Isaac Omoyele, narrowly escaped an assassination attempt in Osogbo on Monday night.

The incident occurred between 10 and 11 p.m. along Ikirun Road, near Charity Hotel, when unidentified gunmen opened fire on his vehicle.

According to reports, Dr Omoyele had just closed from duty at the Osun State Amotekun Headquarters and was driving home when the assailants, wearing masks, pulled up beside his car and sprayed it with bullets.

He sustained gunshot wounds during the attack but managed to survive and is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed medical facility.

Speaking from his hospital bed, Dr Omoyele confirmed the incident and described it as a “terrifying experience”, thanking God for sparing his life.

The motive behind the attack remains unclear, and security operatives have launched an investigation to track down the perpetrators.

Amotekun, a regional security outfit established by South-West states, works to support conventional security agencies in tackling crime across the region.
