The former chairman of Ukwa West Local Government, Sylvanus Nwaji has alleged that several roads, health and educational projects being handled in the oil-producing area of Abia state by the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC and the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, are in sad situations.

He blamed many of the region’s political leaders, who after being appointed or elected into federal and state public offices abandon their duties to their primary constituencies.

The Action People’s Party, House of Representatives, 2023 candidate, called on Governor Alex Otti to probe the Abia State Oil Producing Area Development Commission, ASOPADEC.

Speaking on how the people of Asa and Ndoki feel towards the government’s developmental programmes in the oil-producing community, he maintained that he’s not going to blame the immediate past administration, because Niger Delta indigene was also appointed into strategic positions, especially in the Abia state Oil Producing Area, adding that they are only interested in self and stomach infrastructure.

Sylvanus asserted that he’s not going to blame the government but Niger Delta elected and appointed indigenes who are public office holders.

The former chairman stated that he resigned from chairmanship because things are not going as planned.

However, he challenged appointees to follow suit if they noticed they can not comfortably work.

He advised Governor Alex Otti to turn around the high level of underdevelopment in Ukwa West, and also plead with him to end the era of sycophancy in governance if he means well to the Abia people.
