By Monday Peters, Abuja
The Concerned stakeholders of Otu-Jeremi Community in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State have appealed to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to intervene in the ongoing electoral process, alleging undue interference by Festus Utuama, a member of the Delta State House of Assembly, and Olorogun Dr. Lucky Avweromre, Chairman of Ughelli South Local Government Area.
In an open letter, the concerned Stakeholders of community expressed concern that Utuama and Avweromre are attempting to influence the electoral process, threatening the peace and stability of the community. “The community’s leadership structure is guided by a well-established constitution and traditions that ensure fairness and equity”, they added.
The letter calls on Utuama and Avweromre to refrain from interfering in the electoral process and to remain neutral, allowing the community to conduct its affairs in line with its constitution. The community emphasised that leadership is not just about authority, but about setting the right example and upholding democratic principles.
The community trusts that Governor Oborevwori will intervene to ensure that all parties involved act within the bounds of the law and respect the autonomy of the Otu-Jeremi Community. The appeal highlights the importance of fairness, unity, and true representation in the electoral process.
The stakeholders of Otu-Jeremi Community are seeking the Governor’s intervention to restore peace and confidence in the process. The situation has raised concerns about the integrity of the electoral process and the role of political office holders in community affairs.
The Governor’s response to this appeal is eagerly awaited, as the community looks to him to uphold the principles of justice and democracy.
The open letter titled “Urgent Call for Neutrality and Non-Interference in the Otu-Jeremi Community Electoral Process stated below”
Your Excellency,
“We, the concerned people of Otu Jeremi Community in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State, write this open letter with deep respect for your office and your commitment to peace, justice, and democratic values across our state.
“It has become necessary to draw your urgent attention to the alleged involvement and undue interference of Festus Utuama, representing Ughelli South Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, alongside Olorogun Dr. Lucky Avweromre, Chairman of Ughelli South Local Government Area, in the ongoing electoral process of our community.
“Your Excellency, the Otu Jeremi leadership structure is guided by a well-established constitution and long-standing traditions that ensure fairness, equity, and proper representation among the quarters and families. Unfortunately, recent developments suggest attempts by external political actors to influence, manipulate, or impose a preferred candidate on the community against the will of the people.
“We find this deeply troubling.
Elections at the community level are meant to reflect the genuine choice of the people—not the interests of political office holders. The involvement of individuals in positions of authority in ways that appear biased or coercive undermines the integrity of the process, threatens peace, and erodes public trust in leadership.
“We respectfully but firmly call on Festus Utuama and Olorogun Dr. Lucky Avweromre to:
Refrain from any form of interference in the Otu Jeremi electoral process.
Remain neutral and allow the community to conduct its affairs in line with its constitution.
Avoid actions that may be perceived as attempts to impose leadership on the people.
Uphold democratic principles and serve as examples of integrity and fairness.
Leadership, as we all know, is not just about authority but about setting the right example. At a time when our community seeks peace and unity, any act capable of causing division or unrest must be strongly discouraged.
“Your Excellency, we trust in your leadership and your commitment to justice. We humbly request your intervention to ensure that all parties involved act within the bounds of the law and respect the autonomy of the Otu Jeremi Community.
Let it be clear that our desire is not conflict, but fairness. Not division, but unity. Not imposition, but true representation.
We believe that with your timely intervention, peace and confidence in the process will be restored”.
