Over 130 Million Nigerians Are Multidimensionally Poor – Tonye Cole

The All Progressive Congress, APC, Governorship candidate in the just concluded 2023 Rivers state election has stated that the number of extremely poor Nigerians currently stands at over 70 million.

According to World Poverty Clock, the data said that the National Bureau of Statistics classified 133 million people as multi-dimensionally poor.

Cole stated this during a Zero Hunger Symposium, organized by the T200 Foundation to mark World Hunger Day and unveiling of Nigeria’s hunger report.

He maintained that globally, 25,000 die daily from hunger, including more than 10,000 children.

Cole asserts that Nigeria must have a simple implementable, and sustained poverty eradication model.

“Nigeria has the awful distinction of being the world capital of poverty, with 71 million people in extreme poverty” Cole stated.

Furthermore, he asserted that about 828 million always wake up with no idea of what they will eat.
