Oviri-Olomu concerned indigenes chairman condemns attack on Egodor community

The Chairman of Concerned Indigenes of Oviri-Olomu Community(Home and Diaspora),Chief Ben Johnson Ekere has called on the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, the Director-General of the Department of State Security,DSS and the Commissioner of Police in Delta State,CP Olufemi Abaniwonda and others to urgently call the people of Oviri-Olomu Community to order as well as warn them not to cause violence/crisis between themselves and the people of Egodor Community.
Chief Ekere made the call in interview with Our Correspondent in Warri.
He said the call became necessary because the people of the two communities need peace and not war.
“We inter-married. I don’t need anything like fight between Oviri-Olomu and Egodor Communities.”
Chief Ekere condemned the alleged attacks on the people of Egodor Community when they came to see the CSO,by some indigenes of Oviri-Olomu Community on the 8th of March.
“I stand as the Chairman of Concerned Indigenes of Oviri-Olomu Community to condemn the action.
Narrating what transpired on the 8th of March, Chief Ekere noted that a company,Blue Gas Limited is currently laying pipes from Legbegbene,Bayelsa State to Utorogu Gas Plant. He pointed out that the laying of the pipes will pass through twenty one(21) communities in Delta State including Oviri-Olomu and Egodor Communities.
According to him,”recently, they brought a camp site to Oviri-Olomu Community. On the 8th of March, the people of Egodor sent delegates to come and see the CSO. My community people attacked them. They beat them mercilessly. They even used cuttlasses to flog them.”
Chief Ekere explained that,”When the matter came up, I went to Egodor and appealed to them that I don’t want anything crisis between Egodor and Oviri-Olomu. I preached to their leaders and they calmed down.
“The President-General of my Community with some group of persons alleged Egodor people. The PG is Engr. Teme Arumala. The people involved in the scene are Chief John Ewenede, Ogbevire Efetoha Iyeta and Chief Friday Samuel Akporehe who is the Spokesman of the Community(Otota).
“I told them categorically that what they did is very bad because I don’t want anything crisis between Oviri-Olomu and Egodor Communities.
“I have to condemn that a tion because what we experienced in Okuama will be a child’s play in what is going to happen in Oviri-Olomu Community. So, I drew the attention of my people that this thing you did, you need to tender apology to Egodor people.”
