The Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) has paid glowing tribute to women of the Niger Delta in celebration of International Women’s Day 2026, commending their resilience and vital role in the development, peace, and stability of the region.

In a press statement issued on Saturday, the National Chairman of PANDEF, Godknows Boladei Igali, lauded the women of the South-South geopolitical zone for their enduring contributions to family, community, and regional advancement.

The group acknowledged the historic legacy of Niger Delta women, tracing their leadership and activism to renowned nationalist Margaret Ekpo, whose influence continues to inspire generations of women across the region.

According to PANDEF, women in the Niger Delta have remained pillars of peace and harmony despite the socio-economic challenges confronting the region, including infrastructural deficits and environmental degradation linked to its role as a major contributor to Nigeria’s national revenue.

The forum noted that the resilience, wisdom, and sacrifices of women have continued to sustain families and strengthen communities, helping to foster unity and stability across the Niger Delta.

PANDEF also expressed strong support for the 2026 International Women’s Day theme, “Rights. Justice. Action. For All Women and Girls.” The organisation said the theme aligns with the resolutions reached at the 2026 PANDEF Women’s Conference held in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, on March 4, where the voices and leadership of women in the region were prominently highlighted.

Igali reaffirmed the forum’s commitment to working with governors and other stakeholders in the region to advance policies and programmes that promote the empowerment, protection, and inclusion of women at all levels of society.

He stressed that sustainable development in the Niger Delta cannot be achieved without prioritising the welfare and participation of women in governance and community development.

PANDEF concluded by celebrating the courage and resilience of Niger Delta women and wished them a meaningful and proud celebration of International Women’s Day.
