PANDEF Mourns Former Delta Deputy Governor, Benjamin Elue at 85
By Chukwunonso Eric, Warri.
The Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of former Deputy Governor of Delta State, His Excellency Benjamin Elue, describing his death as a significant loss to Delta State, the Niger Delta region, and Nigeria as a whole.
In a condolence letter dated March 2, 2026, and addressed to the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, the National Chairman of PANDEF, Ambassador (Dr.) Godknows Boladei Igali, conveyed the grief of the organisation’s Board of Trustees and National Executive Council over the demise of the elder statesman at the age of 85.
PANDEF noted that although Chief Elue lived to the ripe age of 85, his passing remains painful and irreplaceable at this time. The forum paid glowing tribute to his exemplary life, describing him as a man who embodied the highest virtues of humanity throughout his earthly journey.
According to the statement, Chief Elue distinguished himself in both private and public life, leaving behind a legacy rooted in integrity, fear of God, hard work, and diligence. PANDEF emphasised that his character and values stood as a guiding light to many within and beyond Delta State.
The forum further recalled his tenure as Deputy Governor of Delta State during the administration of Chief James Ibori, highlighting his role in laying a strong foundation for political stability and dependable support for socio-economic development in the state. His humility and maturity in governance, the statement added, became exemplary not only in the Niger Delta but across Nigeria at large.
Describing his death as a heavy blow, PANDEF said the entire South-South geopolitical zone has lost one of its most illustrious and resourceful sons. Nonetheless, the forum expressed gratitude to God for his fulfilled life and took solace in the Christian assurance that “to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.”
PANDEF extended its deepest condolences to the family of the late leader, the people of Aniocha North Local Government Area, and the government and people of Delta State, praying for the peaceful repose of his soul.
Chief Benjamin Elue is remembered as a statesman whose contributions to governance and regional development will endure in the annals of Delta State and the Niger Delta region.
