The office of the presidential amnesty programme, PAP has clarified that the current delay in payment of stipends of ex-agitators was due to delay in releasing of funds by the federal government.
This was disclosed in a circular signed by Mr Alamy Freston Akpor, Special Assistant to the Interim Administrator on Media on Thursday.
The statement titled, “GENERAL NOTICE TO PRESIDENTIAL AMNESTY PROGRAMME BENEFICIARIES” reads: “The Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) wishes to notify its stipends beneficiaries that the current delay in stipends payment is due to delay in release of funds from the Office of the Accountant General which resulted in the long wait in receiving the allocation for the month of June 2023.
“However, the matter was resolved yesterday with approval given for release of funds. Consequently, payment will commence immediately the funds are received.
“I am directed further to clarify that the recently launched Presidential Amnesty Programme Cooperative Society Ltd (PAPCOSOL) is an independently funded initiative that does not in any way affect the payment of stipends. Beneficiaries are therefore counselled to disregard any information to the contrary, the statement added.
