PDP Finally Embraces Wike’s Proposals, Says Olayinka

By Diafa Doubra,
Lere Olayinka, a close ally of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has disclosed that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has now adopted three positions Wike had been advocating for since 2022.
Olayinka explained that the positions, which were initially dismissed by party leaders, have suddenly gained acceptance as the PDP re-strategises ahead of the 2027 general elections. He, however, questioned the timing, arguing that the delay may have cost the party dearly during the 2023 polls.
According to him, Wike’s push for fairness, zoning, and internal balance was ignored when it mattered most, leading to deep divisions within the PDP. “It is ironic that the same positions Wike was criticised for then, are the very ones the party is now embracing,” Olayinka said.
He noted that while the shift is a welcome development, the real test will be whether the PDP can rebuild trust among its members and Nigerians who had lost confidence in its leadership.
