PDP suspends Ward leaders for nominating man as ‘Women Leader’

Controversy as a seven-member disciplinary committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by Goddy Nnorom, has revealed startling irregularities in the leadership nominations within Isuamawu Ward 4 of the party in Isuikwuato Local Government Area. The committee’s findings, announced on April 9, 2025, indicate that a man was allegedly appointed as the Women Leader, while an elderly woman was selected as the Youth Leader, sparking widespread discontent among women and youth members of the ward.
Congress gathered that the committee’s investigation highlighted that these appointments contravened the natural order of eligibility, as there were qualified young women and youths available to occupy the respective roles. In response, the disciplinary body has recommended the immediate suspension of the individuals responsible for these anomalies, as well as those accused of instigating broader crises within the PDP in the area.
Goddy Nnorom, the committee chairman, referenced a recent Supreme Court ruling that classifies party membership and internal affairs as the exclusive domain of political parties. He emphasized that the committee’s actions were guided by the 2017 PDP Constitution (as amended). “Our deliberations were thorough and focused on addressing the numerous infractions brought before us,” Nnorom stated, underscoring the committee’s commitment to upholding party regulations.
The PDP leadership argued that the controversial selections not only defied party principles but also ignored the availability of suitable candidates, thereby undermining the interests of women and youth in Ward 4. The committee’s recommendations specifically cited violations of key provisions in the 2017 PDP Constitution, including Sections 58(1)-(a)(b)(d)(e)(g)(i), which address breaches of party rules and conduct.
In its official statement, the Goddy Nnorom-led committee outlined its conclusions, noting: “The infractions identified clearly violate critical sections of the 2017 PDP Constitution (as amended). As a result, we have adopted the penalty outlined in Section 59(1)(d), which mandates disciplinary measures for such violations.”
The recommendations have been forwarded to the PDP leadership for further action, as the party seeks to restore order and address the grievances of its members in Isuamawu Ward 4.
