The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has embarked on a nationwide strike, crippling operations at key government oil agencies, including the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC), the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), and the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).

The strike, which began early Monday, followed the union’s unresolved dispute with the federal government over welfare issues and alleged unfair labor practices. PENGASSAN members were seen locking office gates and halting official duties across several branches of the affected agencies.

Speaking to reporters in Abuja, a senior official of the union said the industrial action became necessary after repeated efforts to engage the government yielded no results. “We have shown enough patience. The strike is our last resort to get the attention of those in power,” the source stated.

The shutdown is already raising concerns about potential disruptions in fuel distribution nationwide if the deadlock persists. Meanwhile, government representatives are reportedly making efforts to open dialogue with union leaders to resolve the crisis.
