Despite the Dangote Petroleum Refinery’s recent offer to deliver refined petrol free of charge to depots across the country, the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) has remained unchanged at an average of ₦865 per litre, according to reports from major filling stations nationwide.

Marketers have attributed the stagnant price to persistent challenges in the fuel distribution chain, including high transportation costs, multiple taxation, and exchange rate volatility. They argued that while Dangote’s free delivery initiative helps reduce logistics expenses, it does not directly address the broader cost structure that determines retail pricing.

Industry sources disclosed that most retailers still rely on old stock purchased at higher rates, and many are waiting for further directives from the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) before making price adjustments.

Meanwhile, consumers have expressed frustration over the continued high price of fuel, calling on the Federal Government to ensure that the benefits of domestic refining translate into cheaper petrol for ordinary Nigerians. The development comes as economic analysts warn that sustained high energy costs could further drive inflation and worsen the cost-of-living crisis.
