Phyna shares medical update on injured sister

By Diafa Doubra,
Former Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, Ijeoma Otabor, popularly known as Phyna, has raised serious concerns over the health of her younger sister, Ruth, who sustained life threatening injuries in a ghastly accident that occurred near Auchi Polytechnic, Edo State, on August 13, 2025.
The accident, which left Ruth critically injured, led to the amputation of one of her legs and has since left her battling multiple health complications. Phyna explained that while her family is grateful that the Dangote Group initially promised to cover the cost of her sister’s treatment and even made arrangements to fly her to Lagos for advanced medical care, the situation has become frustrating due to what she described as unnecessary delays.
According to Phyna, the company had already agreed to the move, but later requested a second medical report from Lagoon Hospital, questioning the hospital’s ability to handle the case. This, she said, has slowed down urgent medical intervention despite the severity of her sister’s condition.
In an emotional appeal, Phyna highlighted the gravity of Ruth’s health crisis, revealing that aside from the leg amputation, doctors had confirmed fluid in her lungs, a severely damaged reproductive system, and a burst bladder. She stressed that every moment counts in ensuring Ruth receives timely medical care, insisting that her sister cannot afford to wait while bureaucratic processes drag on.
Phyna called on relevant stakeholders and well-meaning Nigerians to intervene, reiterating that her family is not only fighting to save Ruth’s life but also to restore her dignity after such a traumatic ordeal. She emphasized that the Dangote Group must uphold its initial commitment to facilitate the treatment, as any further delay could worsen her sister’s fragile condition.
