Plateau Communities Cry Out Over Renewed Killings in Mangu

By Diafa Doubra,
Residents of several communities in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State have raised an alarm over a fresh wave of attacks that have left many people dead and several others displaced.
According to local sources, heavily armed assailants stormed some villages in the area overnight, shooting sporadically and setting houses ablaze. The renewed violence has thrown the affected communities into mourning, with survivors describing the attacks as “unprovoked and barbaric.”
Community leaders called on both the federal and state governments to intervene urgently, saying the killings have persisted despite the presence of security operatives in the region. They lamented that innocent farmers and children continue to suffer as bandits and gunmen ravage their villages unchecked.
Humanitarian groups in Plateau have also appealed for help, warning of a looming displacement crisis as hundreds of residents flee their homes in fear.
The Plateau State Police Command has reportedly deployed more personnel to restore calm, while investigations into the latest attacks are underway. Meanwhile, residents are pleading for lasting peace, saying they are “tired of burying loved ones every week.”
