Police in Borno State have confirmed the abduction of 14 girls by suspected Boko Haram/Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters in the Huyum community of Askira/Uba Local Government Area.

‎ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, spokesperson for the state police command, said the girls-all from the Mussa District-were seized Friday afternoon while working on a farm.

‎The District Head of Huyum reported the incident, prompting security agencies to launch a joint search-and-rescue operation.

‎A combined team of police officers, soldiers, members of the Civilian Joint Task Force and vigilante hunters was deployed to comb the surrounding areas.

‎During the operation, one of the abducted girls escaped and was rescued unharmed by security personnel.

‎Daso said efforts are ongoing to locate and rescue the remaining 13 victims, with security teams continuing operations in the remote community.

‎Borno State Commissioner of Police Naziru Abdulmajid reassured residents that security agencies are coordinating closely to track the perpetrators and secure the girls’ release.

‎He urged communities, especially farmers, to remain vigilant and restrict their activities to areas under security patrols.

‎The police said additional updates will be provided as the operation continues.
