Police confirm the killing of five officers in Zamfara

The Zamfara State Police Command confirmed the killing of its five officers in an encounter with large numbers of armed bandits in Gidan Giye village of Tsafe Local government Area, Zamfara State.
A statement by the command public relations officer DSP Yazid Abubakar said the officers attached to the Operations Department of the Zamfara State Police Command, led by ASP John Dogara, were on routine patrol along Gusau–Funtua Federal Highway were the bandits laid ambush on them
“Before reaching Gidan Giye village in Tsafe Local Government Area, the patrol team was ambushed by a large number of armed bandits. However, the officers bravely engaged the assailants in a fierce gun duel. DSP Yazid said
DSP Yazid Abubakar also confirmed the killing of an unspecified number of armed bandits in the encounter while five of the command officers pay the supreme price.
“During the exchange, several of the bandits were neutralized, while others fled the scene with suspected gunshot wounds.
“Tragically, five gallant police officers paid the supreme price in the line of duty.The statement read.
The police public relations officer further said, normalcy has been restored to the area, and further reinforcement has been deployed to maintain peace and ensure the safety of commuters along the highway.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Maikaba commends the courage, bravery and dedication of the fallen heroes and also assures the public of the Command’s unwavering commitment to combating criminal elements in the state.
