Police Dismiss Rape Claim, Detail N81.6m Fraud Case Against FirstBank Staff
By Micheal Chukwuebuka
The Nigeria Police Force, Zone XI, Osogbo, has dismissed allegations of rape and unlawful detention made by a female suspect, Mrs Ajulo Abigail, describing the claims as false and intended to distract from an ongoing criminal investigation.
In a press statement issued on 24 February 2026, the police said Mrs Ajulo was arrested following a petition by Mr Peter Oguanya over allegations of obtaining money under false pretence, stealing and unlawful conversion of N81.6 million. The police clarified that the matter is criminal, not civil, as claimed by the suspect.
According to investigators, Mrs Ajulo, a staff member of First Bank of Nigeria, allegedly introduced an insurance policy to Mr Oguanya under the bank’s name in 2019 and opened a fake account for weekly deposits of N200,000. Police said the funds were diverted into her personal account until 2023, when the complainant requested a withdrawal and discovered the alleged diversion.
Investigations further revealed that part of the money was allegedly used to build a school and residential properties, including three units of two-bedroom flats in the Ofatefo area of Osun State.
The case was initially reported at Oke Bale Police Station before being transferred to the Zone XI Headquarters in Osogbo for detailed investigation. Police said the suspect was uncooperative and attempted to mislead investigators.
Addressing the rape allegation, the police reiterated their zero-tolerance policy for misconduct and confirmed that an investigation has been launched. The alleged officer has been identified, arrested and is assisting investigators. However, the police stated that at no time is a single officer left on duty at a station. They added that Mrs Ajulo reported being ill in the early hours of 29 December 2025 and was taken to Anuoluwapo Maternity Home and Child Welfare Services in Ede, where she made no complaint of sexual assault. Her medical report has since been obtained.
On claims that she was forced to surrender property documents, the police said records show she was granted bail on 30 December 2025 and returned voluntarily the next day with a sworn affidavit from a High Court. The police noted that no rape complaint was lodged at the hospital, police station or with any senior officer before or after her release.
The police urged the public to disregard what they described as fabricated claims aimed at attracting sympathy and obstructing justice, and called for continued public support in the fight against crime.
The statement was signed by DSP Ade Ogunyemi, Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, Zone XI, Osogbo.
