By Chukwunonso Eric, Warri.
The Delta State Police Command has successfully foiled a suspected armed robbery operation in Agbor, leading to the arrest of one suspect and the recovery of weapons and other incriminating items.
The incident occurred in the early hours of April 4, 2026, following a distress call from residents of Full Current Compound in Alihame, Agbor, who reported that a gang of about eight armed robbers was attempting to break into their premises.
Responding swiftly, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Agbor Division deployed an Anti-Crime Patrol team to the scene. Upon arrival, operatives met one of the suspects, identified as Emeka Ernest, 41, a native of Ukpo in Anambra State, already subdued by vigilant residents after a struggle.
The suspect, who sustained injuries during the encounter, was taken into police custody and subsequently rushed to the General Hospital, Agbor, where he is currently receiving treatment.
A search conducted at the scene led to the recovery of one live cartridge from the suspect. Police also recovered two expended cartridges, a battle axe, a red cloth suspected to have been used as a face mask, and a mobile phone believed to belong to the suspect.
In a follow-up operation on April 6, 2026, acting on the suspect’s confession, police operatives recovered a locally fabricated single-barrel short gun concealed near the scene of the incident in Alihame.
Authorities confirmed that investigations are ongoing, with efforts intensified to apprehend other members of the gang who remain at large.
The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the prompt response of the DPO and the professionalism of the operatives, as well as the vigilance and bravery of the residents whose actions contributed to the success of the operation.
He reiterated the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state and urged members of the public to remain alert and promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies.
