Police Inspector demoted for beating-up civilian in Rivers

The Nigeria Police Force, NPF, has reduced the rank of a policeman for beating up civilians in a viral video on Port-Harcourt road at Emouha in Rivers State.
The police force demoted the police inspector following complaints and findings on a viral video on social media on April 9.
It was learned the policeman and his colleagues were apprehended last week for assault, discreditable conduct, and incivility to members of the public.
Following an orderly room trial by the Force Provost Marshal, the police inspector Adejoh Siaka had been demoted in rank from Inspector to Sergeant.
In a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Muyiwa Adejobi said Sergeant Ndiwa Kpuebari, who was present at the scene but failed to discourage Siaka, was reprimanded.
He further said one Inspector Friday Obaka, who was absent from the scene of the skirmish, was discharged unconditionally after the proceedings.
According to the force’s spokesman, the affected policemen would be posted out of Rivers State to other Commands and Formations to continue their police duties.
Meanwhile, the IGP, Usman Baba, has tasked officers and men of the Force to be diligent and uphold the tenets of professionalism and respect for human rights.
