Fresh controversy is rocking the Nigeria Police Force following revelations that several officers with less than two years of service have been granted double promotions, while more experienced personnel continue to be overlooked.

According to documents obtained by reporters, the promotions, which allegedly occurred under the leadership of Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, have sparked anger and frustration within the force. Sources say the favoured officers were promoted despite not meeting the service requirements, raising concerns about transparency and fairness in the promotion process.

Some senior officers expressed dismay, accusing top officials of promoting cronies and loyalists rather than following merit-based procedures. “It’s demoralising to see those who just joined the force getting double promotions, while others who have risked their lives in the field are ignored,” one officer told reporters anonymously.

The development has intensified calls for a thorough review of the police promotion system to restore morale and accountability within the force. The police authorities are yet to issue an official statement addressing the allegations.
