Policeman arrested over attempt to cover-up rape suspect in Delta

A policeman attached to Ebrumede Police Divisional Headquarters has been detained over an alleged attempt to cover a suspect accused of defiling a fourteen years old girl in Warri, Delta state.

It was learnt that the victim was employed by one Stephen Azebiri as a POS operator who later allegedly defiled her.

A legal source by Omes Ogedegbe Esq, the victim left the job less than one month due to the constant harassment by her employer.

The source said after some days of her resignation she was invited to the POS shop, precisely, on the 1st of August, 2022 by the former employer who handed her over to a police officer name CPL Korokoro Ebitimi for alleged stealing of one hundred thousand naira.

It was also alleged that upon her arrest the policeman took her to an uncompleted building where they sized her phone and collected her ATM card and was made to sign an understanding that she would pay the sum she could not account for.

The arrest was a sequel to a petition written to the Area Commander, Warri by the Conference for the Actualization of Human Rights, CAHR, who eventually directed the arrest of Stephen Azebiri and the CPL Korokoro Ebitimi on conspiracy.

However, the suspect Stephen, in the cause of the interview admitted that on one occasion he lured the young girl to his house and defiled her and on another occasion, he defiled the victim in the office.

According to the police, the suspect is currently in detention, adding that he would be arraigned to serve as a deterrent to employers who always take undue advantage of unsuspecting employees.
