The member representing Burutu Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Julius Pondi has commiserated with families of deceased the Ijaw music and football stars in the twin auto crashes on Delta and Abuja roads.
Congress news earlier reported that five music stars of popular Ijaw music band Barrister S. Smooth died in an auto crash on one Abuja-Lokoja road on Sunday.
It was gathered that Bayelsa Queens football supporters were also involved in a ghastly auto crash on Asaba road and four persons died on the same Sunday.
The lawmaker, while addressing the press and supporters, observed a minute silence for the departed souls, adding that the Ijaw nation is mourning and grieving.
Pondi said the news came to him as a shock, especially since it is happening when the nation is observing a critical moment in her history.
The lawmaker who earlier cancelled an event to mark his third term inauguration at the national assembly following the sad incidents, commiserated with Barrister Smooth, the Bayelsa government and the families of the departed heroes.
According to him, the event was cancelled because he can’t be celebrating while members of his constituency are mourning loved ones, adding that his action was to join other bereaved families in mourning the fallen stars.
He also expressed sympathy to the Ijaw music industry and the Bayelsa football federation, adding that the incidents are unfortunate, disheartening and a monumental loss.
He, however, prayed for God’s fortitude upon the families of the victims to bear the irreparable loss.
