Presidency Denies El-Rufai’s ‘Life Presidency’ Claim

By Diafa Doubra,
The Presidency has strongly refuted remarks made by former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, suggesting that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is plotting to remain in power beyond constitutional limits.
In a statement on Monday, presidential spokespersons described El-Rufai’s claim as “baseless and mischievous,” stressing that President Tinubu is fully committed to upholding Nigeria’s democratic principles and the sanctity of the constitution.
The Presidency maintained that Tinubu’s focus is on delivering good governance, reviving the economy, and addressing insecurity, not extending his stay in office. It also urged Nigerians to ignore what it termed “deliberate attempts to distract the government with false narratives.”
El-Rufai’s comments had stirred heated debates across political circles, with some critics warning against any hint of tenure elongation. However, the Presidency assured citizens that such fears are unfounded, emphasizing that Tinubu’s administration will stand firmly by the rule of law.
