Presidency Praises Kwankwaso for Condemning Trump’s Remarks, Calls for National Unity
By Diafa Doubra,
The Nigerian Presidency has commended former Kano State Governor and New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, for openly condemning comments made by former U.S. President Donald Trump suggesting possible U.S. military action in Nigeria.
In a statement released today, the Presidency described Kwankwaso’s response as “patriotic and unifying,” saying his stand reflected genuine concern for Nigeria’s sovereignty and national stability.
Kwankwaso had earlier cautioned that Trump’s remarks could inflame religious tension and further destabilize the country. He urged Nigerians to avoid divisive narratives and instead work collectively to address insecurity.
Reacting to his comments, Presidential spokesperson Ajuri Ngelale said the administration welcomed the former governor’s position and called on other opposition leaders to “rise above politics” and support the government in defending national interests.
“The government appreciates Senator Kwankwaso’s statesmanship,” Ngelale said. “This is a time for all Nigerians regardless of political affiliation to stand together in the face of external threats and misinformation.”
Political observers note that the rare show of alignment between the ruling party and a key opposition figure could signal a shift toward a more cooperative national security approach amid rising regional tensions.
