Presidency Says Jonathan’s Poor Performance Will Hinder His 2027 Ambition

By Diafa Doubra,
The Presidency has said that former President Goodluck Jonathan’s performance during his tenure will remain a major obstacle to any political ambition he might nurse ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking through a senior aide, the Presidency described Jonathan’s record in office as “disappointing,” claiming that his administration’s failures in key sectors such as security, the economy, and power supply are still fresh in the minds of Nigerians. The aide noted that Nigerians are unlikely to forget the “widespread corruption and policy missteps” that characterized Jonathan’s time as president.
The comments came amid growing speculation that Jonathan may be considering a return to active politics, with reports suggesting that some political groups have been urging him to contest again.
While Jonathan himself has not publicly declared interest in the 2027 presidential race, political analysts believe the Presidency’s remarks are a calculated move to weaken any momentum he might be gaining ahead of the elections.
The statement has since sparked mixed reactions across the country, with some Nigerians accusing the government of attempting to discredit the former leader, while others agree that Jonathan’s administration left much to be desired.
